Which type of email do I need?
IMAP and POP
IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. This simply means that you will be able to log in and access the email from anywhere. IMAP email is stored on an email server, so when you read it, you aren’t actually downloading it to your device. This makes it possible to check your emails from multiple devices, without missing any in between.
POP, or, Post Office Protocol, works by downloading messages on to the device you’re reading them on, which then in turn deletes them from the server. This makes it very difficult for tracking and storage for people who want to access their emails from multiple locations, as they won’t see emails that have already been accessed from another of their devices.
Microsoft Hosted Exchange, like IMAP, is also based on a server that is then accessed remotely by the end user. However it’s functionality is greatly advanced over that of IMAP. The end user can configure individual email addresses and manage contacts, calendars and shared calendars, which is synchronised across all linked devices. Microsoft Hosted Exchange also comes with it’s own security and malware protection. This is the best option for businesses looking for a comprehensive email solution that also will protect their inboxes from security issues.
At CWCS Managed Hosting, we can offer Microsoft Hosted Exchange as a standalone product, or we can also offer it as part of Microsoft Office 365.
Why have a business email address?
If you are running any kind of business, whether this is primarily online or not, you will need an email address. Customers expect a legitimate business to have their own email address and what’s more, they will usually expect you to have a professional looking email address.
Modern consumers are increasingly tech savvy and will be selective about the type of email they want to their inbox. Your email address is part of your first impression to any new customers and for most these days, having an @gmail.com or an @hotmail.com isn’t going to be sufficient enough for that potential customer to invest any trust in your business.
A professional email address is a reflection of your business and so you want it to be as perfect as possible. Invest in your own domain name, which is a very low cost thing to do, and is an action of which you will see so much benefit that it will easily cover your initial small cost. 75% of customers see a business having a professional email address with their own domain name as essential to trusting them enough to do business with them. That’s a percentage that simply cannot be ignored by anyone who owns a business.
