Nottingham City Council Case Study

In recent years, Nottingham has established itself as one of the best cities outside of London for public transport in the UK. Investment is continuing to move to the city and the development of its tram network is proving to be a great economic benefit to Nottingham.

With this large ongoing development, there is the need to install pivotal infrastructure to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the transport network. This is where CWCS Managed Hosting comes in to the frame.

Nottingham City Council approached Beeston-based CWCS to supply a bank of dedicated servers in their data centres to power the new Citycard retail network.

Dedicated Server Hosting for the Citycard Retail Network

Citycard Nottingham has transformed the way passengers purchase their public transport tickets. The new Smart Ticket system enables people to buy tickets quickly and conveniently.

Nottingham City Council has installed 38 new kiosks at key sites close to bus and tram stops in the city centre. A further 50 kiosks are sited at district centres and places of high journey numbers outside of the city centre.

Councillor Jane Urquhart, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transport, said:

“These improvements will make travelling by public transport in Nottingham even better. By making tickets available more easily online and at kiosks and outlets in and around the city, public transport becomes a more appealing way to travel for even more people.”

“These proposals come as Nottingham’s tram network is changing and expanding, with the tram operator preparing to introduce new self-serve ticket machines with easy-to-use screens, located at tram stops, enabling passengers to buy tickets more quickly to board the city’s trams. Overall, these new developments will help to consolidate Nottingham’s public transport network as among the best in Europe.”
