CWCS is proud to announce that our Nottingham Data Centre’s official Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating has jumped from E to B. With our Data Centre going live in 2025, this is a huge achievement for the CWCS team, and a brilliant reflection of our efforts to prioritise energy efficiency. An EPC rates a property’s energy efficiency on a scale from A (best) to G (worst); a move to a B rating is a major leap, defined on propcert.co.uk as, “performing well above average in terms of energy efficiency”.

For CWCS, this means our facility now operates much more efficiently, using less energy for heating and power, which leads to lower running costs and fewer emissions. The official certificate (issued by the UK government) reflecting this improvement is available at the GOV.UK EPC register: View EPC Certificate.

Achieving a B rating brings clear benefits. A more efficient building translates directly into lower energy bills and a smaller carbon footprint. Buildings with higher EPC ratings are also more attractive to businesses and investors who value sustainability. Our upgrade is well ahead of upcoming regulations, too: current UK proposals aim to require all new tenancies to have at least an EPC C rating by 2027, so CWCS is already exceeding those targets.

Key Benefits of The Upgrade Include:

  • Lower energy consumption and costs: Higher efficiency cuts waste. In practice, this means significant long-term savings on utilities.
  • Reduced environmental impact: A B rating indicates fewer carbon emissions from our operations, supporting a greener planet.
  • Stronger customer value: Demonstrating sustainability aligns with our promise of high-quality service. A better EPC reassures clients that we’re reliable stewards of both technology and the environment.

This accomplishment is completely aligned with our CWCS mission and values. Our stated purpose is “to deliver a fantastic customer experience, combined with technically excellent hosting”, and we’ve long committed to sustainable practices. All our Data Centres are already powered by 100% renewable energy, and we’ve pledged carbon neutrality by 2030. For example, our Nottingham Data Centre uses advanced chilled water-cooling and power systems to optimise efficiency. Additionally, we advise clients to use energy-saving options like Cloud Hosting: cloud servers can use up to 88% less power than traditional setups. In short, energy efficiency is a HUGE part of our strategy.

Improving our EPC rating from E to B is a significant milestone that fills me with pride,” said Karl Mendez, Managing Director of CWCS. “It shows that we’re not just saying we care about sustainability – we’re actually doing something about it. This progress aligns perfectly with our mission and values of providing high-performance, eco-friendly hosting. It benefits all our customers and proves to potential customers that CWCS leads by example in energy efficiency.”

This achievement matters for our customers. Existing clients can be confident that CWCS is reducing operational costs and carbon impact – two factors that help us keep services affordable and responsible. New customers see that we walk the talk: our upgraded EPC is evidence that CWCS continually improves and honours our promises. As stated on our About page, we “listen first” and strive for “continual improvement”. This EPC upgrade is a concrete result of those values in action.
