How much is web hosting?

The decision to buy web hosting is generally taken at the start-up of a business in the belief that the best package will increase a site’s traffic and thereby boost revenue. In effect, web hosting can provide the infrastructure for the growth of any company as well as providing fast interactive service to customers. The surprise, however, is often how inexpensive it can be.
Most economical packages include guarantees of 99% uptime, along with 24/7 technical support, and the all important user friendly control panel to enable the owner to make changes to the site.
At CWCS, we offer a starter web hosting package to host one domain plus an unlimited number of sub domains. This is in addition to 10,000 MB of bandwidth and data transfer per month. Our package also includes back-up of data and secure, web based email with anti virus and spam filtering. Developments in affordable technology mean that all this can cost less than £20.00 per year.
You might also want to consider if the web hosting is suitable for future expansion. It may be worth looking at spending a bit more on something like our Professional Plan. These type of plans retail at as little as £100 annually and will take your business to the next level of efficiency. Any professional plan worth its salt will offer features such as enhanced data transfer up to around 60GB and web scripting applications such as ASP & ASP.NET, PHP, as well as the open source database MySQL, all of which will enhance your website and make life easier. However, particularly for the layman in IT commerce, perhaps the most valuable aspect of web hosting is the technical advice that can make all the difference.

Why do companies need managed hosting?

Every website needs web hosting services, for without it the website doesn’t even get to the Internet. That is a fact, but the type of web hosting needed for different sites will differ vastly. What type of web hosting you personally need will depend on what your website does. If you are a hobbyist wanting to share information or you want a personal website to keep in touch with family, a shared web hosting option is usually more than adequate. From there the more established businesses will need dedicated web hosting services to run smoothly. Using managed hosting means you have different needs that must be met. Managed web hosting means you get the web hosting company to manage your administrative tasks for you. This includes IT services, desktop and security monitoring as well as remote data backup. Managed hosting also comes with full technical assistance. Benefits to the website owner CWCS Managed hosting means that we safeguard the website in the event that it crashes by full backing up of data. CWCS continuously monitor your server for security breaches and this is a hugely important factor for businesses. If a security breach occurs, the our technical team immediately swings into action to stop infiltration. Managed hosting means all tasks that would have been handled by in-house IT staff will be handled by CWCS. This means savings for your business as you do not have to maintain in-house IT staff to look after your server. Handing over all these tasks to CWCS means savings on the long run for your business. All your web hosting needs are taken care of for a monthly fee, thus freeing you up to focus fully on running your business.

When To Start With Dedicated Servers

For a company that is new to having their own website, there are so many costs involved that need to be considered. In the face of a world economic recession it is also wise to count your pennies and make each one of them count. That is why you need to really think long and hard about your web hosting and whether you should start off with dedicated servers. Shared servers often provide good workhorses to cut your teeth on web hosting with. You should seriously consider starting with dedicated servers if you expect a large amount of traffic or have lots of media on your site, such as video and audio clips and downloads. Options and decision Dedicated servers are suited to companies that have large websites. You will need to think about how much bandwidth you may need to use and assess whether shared hosting servers can accommodate you there. If not, dedicated servers will do the trick in no time. You also need to evaluate how much control you need to have over the server and if your technical knowledge isn’t up there with the professionals, you should consider CWCS managed hosting as we then take care of these aspects for you and your dedicated server. Many companies will start out with shared servers and then move on to dedicated servers once they have experienced enough growth. Growing beyond what a shared server can accommodate warrants looking into a CWCS dedicated server.

Microsoft has signed off Windows 7 development ready for consumer launch on October 22

All is well within Microsoft’s product development team, with the Windows 7 operating system scheduled launch on October 22nd. The development has already been signed off with the code considered finished.

The product is now ready to be pressed on CD’s, installed on manufactures’ PCs and put on Microsoft’s servers for download. Not only has the code for Windows 7 been considered complete, the Windows server 2008 next update has also been confirmed. Windows server 2008 R2 update will be available shortly to patch existing server OS installations.

The Windows server 7 developments have been controlled by Microsoft to ensure its quickest possible release. There was only a single beta version created, with its code being complete just 9 months after it was first initially previewed. Microsoft did not want to repeat the delays that happened with Windows Vista and aimed to release something fresh to the client operating system market.

Windows Vista was released with many problems during the initial launch; one of the main problems for vista was the software and hardware compatibility. Also, Windows Vista was too heavy on the hardware’s performance. When netbooks were released Microsoft rectified this problem by using its older Windows XP instead. Microsoft have commented on the new Windows 7 to ensure consumers Windows 7 is compatible with the broadest array of hardware types, ranging from netbooks to high performance gaming machines.

With web hosting you get what you pay for

We have all seen the advertisements that offer web hosting for free and we look with longing at that word; free. Everyone wants to get something for free, that is a natural reaction and even more so in the current economic climate when money is tighter than ever. When we talk about free web hosting though, we have to look at the actual price tag that comes with free. The saying holds true with free web hosting; you are only going to get what you pay for. There are instances where free web hosting is acceptable such as for private websites that do not have to compete commercially with other businesses. What does free mean? A free web hosting option means you cannot have your own domain name; instead you will be given a sub domain that will be your username, followed by the company domain. You will have very restricted web space and bandwidth. This means you will have problems if your website wants to have videos and some pictures. In fact all multimedia will probably be problematic. The web host must make a profit, therefore your website will have third party advertisements appearing on it and you cannot decline having them. Personalisation will not be possible and your web tools will be severely limited. You will have what is termed as a “cookie cutter template” web hosting and website look. Few free web hosting options allow any uploading onto your website that comes from any external software. This is not a problem for most personal websites, but for business purposes this will cause problems. Business websites are characterised by professionalism and this is what builds trust with clients. Free web hosting is characterised by slow uploading speeds, third party advertisements and domain names that are impersonal. These are not factors that instil trust in clients. For web hosting that meets your needs, look to CWCS for cost effective yet highly reliable and feature-packed solutions. Our range of packages, from shared hosting to dedicated servers and every inbetween, can ensure your website stays online.

FAQ About Dedicated Servers

When you are new to the world of web hosting you will be faced with a huge decision. Should you take shared web hosting or opt for a dedicated server? That debate can go back and forth for a long time without yielding fruit unless you get direct answers to your dedicated server questions. Questioning dedication How does a CWCS dedicated server work? Well, a dedicated server is a server that you get to use entirely by yourself. Often this also requires managed hosting so that you are not saddled with the burden of server administration and technical issues on top of everything else you need to do. A dedicated server offers you everything a shared server can and a whole lot more. So it’s bigger and solely dedicated to your personal use, but why should you choose a dedicated server? CWCS Dedicated servers offer you more services and better quality service than shared servers do. You can essentially customise most of your software and administration with a dedicated server. You can also get more bandwidth and disk space and you experience more uptime. This makes a dedicated server more suitable for a larger business with high traffic volumes and lots of downloads. Small or start-up businesses that with a relatively low level of traffic can usually start off with a shared server. Do you need a dedicated server? The only way to answer that question is by evaluating your website, content, traffic volume and future growth estimates and predictions. If your website suffers under a shared server, you are losing visitors and customers, then a CWCS dedicated server is the way forward. If you are coping with a shared server and are not experiencing too many hassles, stay there for now and with CWCS, you can upgrade further down the line if necessary.

How the internet can help your company during an epidemic

Although rare, it is important that all companies have a procedure in case there is a serious epidemic as is being highlighted in the popular media at the moment. In more serious situations movements can be restricted, it is sometimes unsafe for people to leave their homes and travel to work or collect in large groups in offices. On occasions like this it is critical to many business that those who are well enough to work can continue, at the very least, the basic running of the company. This is where the power of the internet and forward planning can really make a huge difference to whether your company survives a local or national event such as an epidemic.

The first trick is to have a contingency plan that is easily obtainable and viewable, that everyone within the business is aware of it and how to obtain it in the event its needed. The plan should be kept up to date and take into account both the possibility that a large number of staff would be off ill, unable to travel or completely unable to work for an extended period. Take into account those that live the closest to the place of work where valuable equipment maybe stored and in need of maintenance, ensure those staff are fully able to maintain that equipment to the minimum standard required.

Ensure you have at least two means of communication with your staff outside of the work place, usually phone, SMS or internet (email and instant messaging) so that you can communicate with those well enough to work but unable to travel to the office.

Offsite backups or accessibility of your key IT services is also an option which should be considered, especially if it enables users to work from home via the internet. Either setting up a VPN (Virtual Private Network) in your workplace which people can securely access from outside the physical office location, or even out source your IT services to a data centre owner/provider if your company is small, so that should anything happen in your office while it is unmanned, it would not effect your connectivity to your core services.

Most of all though remember the important saying and hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Web hosting in the UK and you

Web hosting in the UK is a rich industry with many players and even more services offered. It is easy to get caught up in the debate about who is best and who is not. However, all you really need to worry about is who is best for you and your website. Just because one web hosting UK company is popular does not mean they will be the best option for you. You need to choose web hosting UK according to your own individual website needs. That means taking fees and costs into account, service quality and the packages on offer. You also need to determine your needs with regards to bandwidth in order to make sure your needs are met. One way of finding out whether the bandwidth options and offers meet your needs is to test the web host’s services and quality. You should ask them to give you a list of websites that they are hosting. You need to go to those websites and take note of a few factors. One factor to note is the page load time. If you are connected with high speed access then you should not have to wait forever for the page to load. You need to know that your web hosting company is going to be able to supply you with enough bandwidth to cope with the load of content on your website. You need to make sure that your web hosting UK options cater to your bandwidth needs. Look at how heavy your website is regarding content, flash, audio, video, images and any additional extras. This will help you determine the bandwidth you need so that you can choose the right company and the right package. With CWCS, we have a number of different web hosting packages available to ensure that we can meet your requirements and your budget, whatever they are.
