During the first quarter of 2009 VeriSign released statistics of more than 180 million registered domain names across the Internet.
They stated that during the first quarter, a high amount of new registrations is always expected from looking at previous years figures. The new figures released are a 12% increase globally on domain name registrations from last year.
The most popular domain suffix is .com, which totals up to 43% of all registrations. .uk and .de are also doing well for country specific domain names with .de registrations amounting to around 90% of Germanys total domain registrations.
Who owns the domain names?
Around two thirds of all domain name registrations are business owners and 64% of all domain names now have an active website. VeriSign released figures that state approximately one in 100 people now own a domain name.
These figures give us an indication on how quickly the Internet is growing and how much of a demand there is for domain names. Register your domain name with us now to ensure someone else doesn’t register it first…
