How to Create an Awesome and Reliable Website

Have you been toying with the idea of getting your own web site but found it a daunting subject? Have you been putting it off because you just didn’t know where to start? Rest assured you’re not alone. With the Internet reaching a humongous audience having a website is now considered an essential requirement for a business. So…don’t put it off any longer let us help you by taking a moment to explain the basics:

Domain Name
Firstly… your website needs a name, a domain name is the web address you choose to use for your site i.e. www.yourdomain.co.uk. A domain name should be carefully selected, ensuring that it is relevant to your company and business, as this will represent you online. Why not check domain name availability to see if the URL you want is available?

Website Design
Now you have your domain name you will need to have your website designed. All you need is an idea and a web designer to transform this into your new site. Or, if you feel brave and would like to design your site yourself, we do actually offer a software called Sitebuilder, this is an easy to use interface to design your site quickly and easily by adding text and images to a chosen template; a demo of this is available at http://sitebuilder4.demo.parallels.com/Wizard.

Web Hosting
So, now you own your own domain name, and your site is ready to be unveiled to the public; your website will now need to be “hosted”. All you need to do is take an account with us so your website has a home, this will essentially be space you rent on one of our servers here at CWCS Managed Hosting. We will give you instructions on how to log in and upload your website to the server, and will ensure this stays online for you.

There are many different types of hosting packages available, to determine which one you need the following factors need to be considered:
• The size of the physical website?
• How many email addresses are required?
• How many visitors do you anticipate?
• Are any special scripting languages required?

These questions are not always the easiest to answer, but don’t worry! We have specialist advisers available to help you determine which package you need, they are available on 0845 203 1000.

My site is online, now what do I do?
At this point you might want to consider how to generate more visits to your site, the good news is we offer you the facility to do this FREE OF CHARGE with our hosting accounts. We currently offer Microsoft AdCenter and Google Adwords vouchers with all new orders; this enables you to create pay-per-click adverts linking to your site, for free. Once the vouchers have been used you can then make an informed decision as to whether you would like to pay to continue the service.

We hope this has been useful to you, creating and hosting a successful business website is a challenging yet rewarding venture and we understand it can be confusing. If you would like any more information or to discuss this with us please give our Sales and Customer Service team a call on 0845 203 1000… come on, we won’t bite!

How To Move Your Domain To CWCS

In todays guide we look at how to move your domain to CWCS. There are several different kinds of domain name (from the global domains like .com and .net to the localised country domains like .co.uk and .ie).

Now you may wish to move your domain completely to CWCS so we can manage the domain and web hosting for you or you may wish to just point the domain name to our servers whils retaining the domain management with your existing provider.

UK Domains (.co.uk, .org.uk, .ltd.uk, .plc.uk, me.uk)

To transfer a UK domain to your account with CWCS, ask the current host of the domain to change the IPSTAG to CWCS. Then inform CWCS when they have made the chang. CWCS does not always get notified when domains are moved onto our IPS Tag by nominet (the .uk domain governing body). Once changed, we send a change request to Nominet asking them to change the name servers to the ones relevant to your managed hosting account. Once the transfer is complete, allow 12-24 hours for the domain to propogate and be live on the new CWCS hosted webspace.

Note: IPSTAG: CWCS

Top Level Domains (.com, .org, .net, .biz, .info)

To transfer Top Level Domains to your professional hosting account, please ask your current host to change the name servers to unless otherwise stated in your welcome e-mail:

ns.supremeservers.co.uk 193.200.80.3
ns2.supremeservers.co.uk 91.192.193.254

This however will only point the domain to our servers and not CWCS full control to manage and renew the domain. If you wish for this to be the case then simply order a registrar transfer from your billing system page.

Non-UK and Top Level domains

To transfer non-UK and Top Level Domains, please ask the current host of the domain to change the name servers to unless otherwise stated in your welcome
e-mail:
ns.supremeservers.co.uk 193.200.80.3
ns2.supremeservers.co.uk 91.192.193.254

Please note we do not manage or renew these domains on your behalf as we currently don't have the agreements with their registrars.
